An Explanation of RanksAlpha Male The Alpha's job is often the one that dogs often claim to be jeolous of, but it really shouldn't be the case. While it is glamous to be able to boss others around and get your way, that should never be what the Alpha of the wonderous Man Village is like. The male dog that climbs to this rank should always be of fine character, never some one that just "clawed" their way up. The job comes with responcablities as well. Aside from the basics (making sure dogs are getting along with their own kind, humans- super important- and any other species that may call the Village home), he has to make sure that he keeps a sharp eye out for any potential rank worthy "pets" that roam the Village are justly rewarded when they show that they deserve a Ranking upgrade. Since wolves(other than visiting Blackbloods) with less than half dog blood in them are banned in the Village (and always will be after what those createns did to the paradise a while back!), he has to make sure that should any slip past the border agents- which shouldn't happen if they're doing their jobs right- that the ugly little large suckers are taken right out of the Village, willingly or not. Being a work minded dog himself, the Alpha will try and make sure that his fellow packmates are doing the same- working hard. Alpha FemaleBasically a female version of the Alpha male, she shares most of the same chores and jobs as her mate. The only real difference between the two ranks- Alpha female and Alpha male- is the gender role. While an Alpha female is usually the male's mate, she can rule on her own either by being appointed by the male when he retires or him dying. The Alpha pair do not have to be mated, but this is almost always the case. As a female, she often shows the softer side of the ruling class, taking care to carry herself as a good rolemodel for any pups or adults in the pack rankings. She can upgrade ranks, demote, and take care of any buisness that needs attenting just like the male counter part. Beta MaleSome what just a dog waiting to take care of the pack after the Alpha male, the Beta is usually like a second brain to the Alpha male. He provides council and a fellow creature to bounce ideas off of. Even though he is waiting for full powers as Alpha male, he can indeed suggest dogs that deserve a promotion, demotion and run things when the Alpha pair alot him a job. The Beta male is in the alpha's place if anything should cause the alpha to not be able to directly influence the ruling of the pack. Beta FemaleThe Alpha female-to-be, she usually does just as the male beta does- teach themselves from the Alpa's example how to be a fine leader. She has just as much power as the male beta does. She also provides a second brain to her respective "mentor" and a council to the "mentor" as well. Gamma Male: Gamma Female: The ProfessorsThe most able minded in the pack, they've been picked out to council the Alphas to any choices they need or want a second opinion on aside from their betas. Usually having some expirence in another rank, they help the alpha plan attacks and defences. The hunters can benift from their studying of the paths of prey so that they can know ahead of time if its a good idea to hunt on certain days for certain things. Assassins, if they're bold enough to consider even asking for some one to get them this information, could get help by asking a way to make their little job either some one else's fault or a route that won't make it so obvious what pack ordered it out. All in all, the Professors are the wit of the pack, and its a good idea to respect that. The ProtectorBeing the best guard in the pack, the teach their underlings the most useful- and least dangerous- method of getting rid of a threat and keeping the pack safe. Often viewed as a soon-to-be veteran, the Protector is a very skilled dog when it comes to protecting. Most of the dogs who even think of getting this rank would need to be very stocky, built to do a lot of pacing and able to control themselves as to just drive off the enemy and not give chase. The WarlordThe go to dog when a squrimsh breaks out, the Warlord is really just a fancy way for the best brawler to let others know who's "top" dog. Leading the warriors into battle and training them in the brutal tacts of the job, the Warlord is not a dog to be messed with. The rank also needs a lot of self disaplen. Being a powerfully built tank, the dog must always know when to call it quites as not to harm what doesn't need to harm. The HuntsmanThe most effecient hunter, this dog usually leads the hunts for fresh prey. With a nose to be the envy of even wolves, the memory of hunts past, and the power to do real damage in a hunt, the Huntsman is no mere hound- the Huntsman is any human's dream in a food scarce and the symbol of a well suited dog. These beasts must have a good head on their shoulders- prey being foolhardy enough to stay within an easy range of the village is unlikely and the skill of this dog must be superb. Any attacks towards this rank in particular are often seriously punished. After all, this is one of the most popular reasons that humans even keep dogs around. It wouldn't be wise to threaten the dog with the skill that dogs trade to human for their shelter, would it? The Agent The Lightning The Barrier The Heart The Attending The Teacher The Wise Ones The Dagger The Guards The Warriors The Hunters The Spies The Messengers The Border Guards The Sentinals The Healers The Pup Sitters The Assassins The Subordinates The Omegas Children Those not in the PackAllies Elites in Training The Elites The Prisonors The Dirt Our Dearly DepartedThe Graveyard All of this is still major Work in Progress, and will be fixed as ideas come to me! Sorry for any inconviences this may have caused

PHYSICAL WORLD - Where is the village located? What's the weather like?In the olden days of the comic it was said to be in present day, North-west USA. Though I think Kay and Erin are now trying to lean away from the presumption that BBA takes place in North America. The Man Village is not shown on Fable's map so the exact comic location has yet to be shown. MAP- TBA -What do people live in?One-room huts, made of clay/other natural resources. The size varies based on the wealth/rank of the human.

HUMAN LIFE IN THE VILLAGE -What is the Man Village religion?I'm not sure, actually, about the comic MV's religion. I imagine it's very simliar to the religion of North American natives, though (this only applies to the MV; if your character is an immigrant, they can believe in anything you'd like them too!). I think that most humans believe in animals and animal spirits, and we do have shamans and medicine men, no druids, though, I don't think. If you'd like to more about the official comic religion, I'd ask Fable, she's the expert on it =] - What are family relations in their community? Man-woman relations and laws. How do families work, when do they marry and how?Men and women are equal in standing in the village. Though generally men are hunters and warriors, woman tend to stay home, cook, and take care of the domestic part of life. As far as marriage - Men and women generally marry early, I believe. Soon after puberty, for both genders. - Any family member of an Industry worker is a member of the Industry as well, until they start their own family. - Families are tightly-knit, and share a hut until a child decides to start their own family. - For Marriage, generally one would call on the Medicine man or more rarely, the village leader to perform it. I think most of the village would attend if they're members of the Industry. Probably would be a feast, and a big bonfire style party. - Does every human villager have to own a dog/blackblood?In short, no. They're expensive, and even if they are an asset in the long run, so I'm not going to force anyone to own one. Plus I'm pretty sure not everyone did, even back then. It's difficult especially as a newcomer - the cost of living is high if you're not in the Industry, and an added mouth to feed does not always help, despite the usefulness of a loyal companion. Blackbloods are only entrusted to people who have been officially assigned the job of keeping a Blackblood. - Is it possible to create a character that doesn't live in the village but does frequently visit? (for example, a merchant?)Yes, but it's very necessary that they report to a sentry or ranger so that they're added to The Safe List. (You could PM me as well if you want to be added to the list, at either the 'anaco' or 'bloodyroses' account) - What categories of humans are there in the village, and which ones are superior/inferior?There are four main categories - Council, Industry, Rimsman, and Visitor. There is another, fifth subcategory within Rimsman - Prisoner, but this is reserved for any criminals caught, and is currently unfilled - or so the villagers have been told. Council members are the most superior, followed by Industry members, followed by Rimsmen and Visitors (they're equally ranked), and finally the subcategory Prisoner.

ACCEPTANCE AND RANKS
- How do I get accepted?TBA - What is the ‘Safe List’ for? There are many reasons. Some visitors to the MV aren't friendly, thus to identify those that are of benevolent intent, and avoid any, ah, unnecessary conflicts, there's a list. Also, if any of the listed are found injured/lost outside the MV, rangers will gladly assist them. If found dead, the rangers will try and get a message back to their family, no matter how far away the tribe is. It's a very useful service, and free! - How do you get a rank?Activity and good behaviour are a sure-fire way of earning an Industry rank; if you feel your character has demonstrated both then (ICly) contact the Head of the sector they wish to be a part of. If the sector doesn’t have a Head, then contact Anaco (ICly). You may contact me if the Sector head hasn’t replied in a week, however, TALK TO THE HEAD OF THE SECTOR FIRST, IF THERE IS ONE. Sector heads are responsible for ‘accepting’ interested workers into their respective sector. If you’re interested in a Council rank, read the ranks thread - under the category of ‘sector heads’ traits and expectations of Sector Heads are listed. Feel free to contact me (Bloodyroses) to get the inside scoop on what I’m looking for in a Beta. - What if my character doesn’t have the skills/experience for a rank that they desire? They can sign up for training. Generally apprentices are younger than 20, but there’s no age restriction for an apprentice. If they had a job in their village/tribe they’d like to continue here (i.e. have skills but the Sector Head wants them to prove themselves), - Is it possible to hold two ranks, if my character has the skills for both?Yes, if the skills are very different, and are both equally used/employed daily to survive. For example, person X has knowledge of medicine and heals people for a living, and also has exceptional mushing skills, one of two things could happen: a) They are given only one rank, but continue to practice both, using one skillset for daily commodities and Industry-member benefits, and practising the other in free time for extra items. This method is often used by newcomers to get a good strong start. If you'd like to do this, you should contact me (PM to either the 'anaco' or 'bloodyroses' account) beforehand, please. b) They are given two ranks (rare). This is not often done because being a ranked industry member means active, daily contribution to the village, and having two ranks will mean contributing twice as much in the same amount of time. It also means they have less time to earn the surpluses required to keep a family alive. However, arrangements can be made if the sector heads AND Anaco agree, to lessen this workload. - What happens to characters that don't possess skills for any of the industry ranks/doesn't work?Generally they're not given one, unless: a) They are the relative of a ranked (Industry/Council) member, in which case they're simply listed as an odd jobs labourer within the Industry. b) A corrupt head of sector promises them the rank anyways (unlikely). If neither of these situations applies to the character, then they are listed as a Rimsman.

LAWS OF THE MAN VILLAGE - What happens if a character is caught disobeying MV law?If they're turned in to the defense sector, then it depends on the seriousness of the crime. Major crimes would be murder, cannibalism without explicit permission of the victim and the family's awareness on the issue, murder of canines (as they're considered equal members of the village), assault that maims, major/minor assault on a member of the defense, major/minor assault on a Councilperson, major/minor assault on the village leader, and more that I can’t currently think of but will someday try to list.

GESSHOKU AND BLACK MARKET - Who are the Gesshoku/Brotherhood of the Black Moon? They're a criminal organization that hate wolves, werewolves, man-wolves, and the like. They devote a lot of their time to the killing of wolves, and are a fairly dangerous bunch. It is recommended by the Defense Sector that one does not get into conflict/go after them alone, because they are skilled at killing and they've made it clear they will not hesitate to kill anyone in their path. Any member of the Gesshoku, if caught, will face death. Anyone found helping the Gesshoku will face the same punishment. If your character is a witness to Gesshoku activity or have knowledge of when such activity might take place they are encouraged to approach a Sentry or Ranger and report it in daylight hours.

Thank you Met, for the skeleton! The GovernmentThe body of people that lead the village.Village Leader: Anaco________________________High Council________________________Any individual in this category is highly respected. They are experts in their field and not only have an understanding of their trade but its inner workings and its role in the community. The High Councillors regularly converse with the village leader to improve their sector and the lives of those associated with it.Medicine Man None. | The master healer of the village and the leader of all the medics, the Medicine Man's word is second only the village leader's. He is the spiritual leader of the community, and an authority to mind. | Chief of the Warrior Society None. | The Chief of the Warrior Council, often simply referred to as "The Chief" by villagers, is the highest authority of the Warrior Society. The Chief is an influential force as he leads the sector often considered the core of the village - the warriors that feed and protect the village. | | The Guard Captain is in charge of the Border Guard. He is a alert individual who keeps watch over everything that goes in and out of the village. Skilled in both commanding and dealing with unruly upstarts, the Master is to be respected. | Women's Council Representative None | Women are, of course, an integral part of the village. This woman is the elected voice of the women in the village, specifically the homemakers, who don't get much of a voice otherwise. She is powerful because of the sheer numbers behind her (consider; roughly 50% of the villagers behind one individual, and they're far more skilled at broom-weilding than you give them credit for, sirs) and thus definitely not someone to be reckoned with.
| Head of Trade None. | The Head of Trade is a master of both politics and math and can be considered the counterbalance to the Medicine Man; the Head of Trade is the authority when it comes to material wealth and its exchange. This councillor is responsible for the trade industry of the village, and it is a mighty responsibility indeed, as the village is highly dependent on it. | | In charge of all general canid related things.Mushing teams,so on, so forth. | Labor and Crafts Union Leader none. | Coming soon. | Lead Forager none | Coming soon. |
The IndustryEmployed members of the village that make a recognized contribution to the community.________________________Warrior Society________________________The Warrior Society is responsible for hunting, defending camps and territorial boundaries, enforcing band law, preparing the dead for burial, and caring for the poor. This is a high rank (members of the warrior society are considered "noblemen"and only open to men. It is a society within the village itself and has its own internal hierarchy. Lead by:None, Chief of Warrior SocietyWarriors
| Qualities/skills of a Warrior: Stamina, endurance, vigilance, tactical thought, team spirit and the ability to cooperate. |
Warriors
| Qualities/skills of a Hunter: Stamina, endurance, vigilance, an understanding and appreciation of nature, team spirit and the ability to cooperate. |
________________________Border Guard________________________The Border Guard is responsible for the defense of the village. In times of peril, the rangers are the first stand against an outside threat. They hold off the enemy while a swift runner amongst them calls the warriors to arms. However their main purpose is to watch all that goes in and out of the village. They are the ones who accept new immigrants, allow visitors in, and monitor merchants comings and goings. They are a very important part of the village. Lead by:Ronin, Guard CaptainRangers
| Qualities/skills of a Ranger: Vigilance, resourcefulness, excellent vision, physical stamina, speed, amiability, a good sense of judgment, and basic first aid
|
________________________The Trade Sector________________________Trade is what the village depends on to exist - though the Man Village has resources, they don't last year-round, and thus must rely on goods from nearby communities. Traders have an unusually close bond in the village (one would assume salesmen only got along with money!) - and this bond is the reason the village has survived. Lead by:None, Head of TradeTraders
| Qualities/skills of a Trader: Amicability, persistence, persuasiveness, a good ear, and, perhaps most importantly, resourcefulness!
|
________________________The Village Mushers________________________Mushers are responsible for the transfer of goods and persons to and from the MV, as well as within it. They've got an especially close relationship with their dogs, but are often required to be clinical with their team, as the village depends on them heavily. They're generally paired with traders when on official business outside the village. Lead by:Arri and Ixa, HoundmastersMushers
| Qualities/skills in a Musher: Knowledge of dog breeding, care, and mushing, stamina, organization, drive and ability to improvise.
|
________________________The Foraging Sector________________________Foragers are a related but separate group from hunters, yet they are just as respected. They are knowledgeable on where and when to acquire plant matter for consumption, and are also privy to another integral piece of knowledge: how much to take. As some have discovered, it's quite unlikely to find a plant where there wasn't once a seed, and sometimes one must be careful in determining what to leave and what to take. It's very much a balancing act considering the village is settled, and so humans must be extremely careful with the land about them, because one mistake could mean a significant lack of nutrition. It's a job that's steadily gaining in popularity, largely due to the fact that it can be learned, and doesn't depend as much on physical gifts such as speed and strength, two qualities that would otherwise determine survival in the village. Lead by:None, Lead ForagerForagers
| Qualities/skills of a Forager: A good sense of judgement, an understanding of nature, organization, ability to withstand sun for long periods of time, and patience.
|
________________________The Health Sector________________________The art of healing is indeed ancient, and this sector deals with not only healing the physical body but the psyche as well. They tend to wounds, provide healthcare advice, and collect medicinal herbs for non-seasonal use. Lead by:Quixaun, Medicine ManMedics
| Qualities/skills in a Medic: Empathy, knowledge of anatomy, knowledge of herbs, ability to stand the sight of blood, ability to stay calm/have a sure hand, precision, wisdom and spirituality. |
________________________The Craftsmen and Labourer's Union________________________Last but far from least is the sector of labor and crafts. This is the most diverse sector, with jobs ranging from jewelery makers, to weaving, to construction, to tattoo artistry. They provide the man village with their all-essential wares and services - not everyone knows how to construct a hut! - and have a fairly close bond within trades, but also healthy competition. Lead by:None, Union LeaderLaborers and Craftsmen
| Qualities/skills in a Craftsman/Labourer: Generally precision, strength, good eyesight, and the ability to visualize. Otherwise varies by trade. |
The RimspeopleA wide category of few people, consisting of: - Unrecognized, legal immigrants as yet not licensed for their trade in the village - Unemployed vagabonds - Ex-Industry members (demoted members)VisitorsNonmembers on village grounds that have passed the safety check by the Rangers; most often traders from other communities here on business.CriminalsVillagers that disobeyed the law.Wanted
- All Gesshoku members; dead or alive; special reward, see Quixaun.
- No one else yet.
| As yet uncaptured criminals. | Prisoners
| Criminals being held captive by the warriors. | Banished | Villagers that have been exiled, and are no longer welcome on the village grounds. | Executed | Villagers killed for their crimes. |
