Sonja
Sonja slept on the ground, her small heart racing as she woke up with a muffled squeak. Shaking and looking around her small den she leaped up out of her den and looked at the dawn sky. Chitterings fearfully she raced along the ground, looking for someone, following a scent. Still racing across the ground she raced until she came to a tree, it was an oak, not that the frantic polecat cared. She raced up the tree, using the gnarled branches to help her up. Landing on the platform that Deerscream made she crawled under her sleeping hide and cried softly. This would probably have been the first nightmare she ever had, and well, even adults can get scared from nightmares.
Squeaking softly she would press her cool fur against Deerscreams warm skin, her round ears flat and her blue eyes watery as she cried. She shook and shivered as if fearful, like a child wanting to be held after a scarey dream. It was a mystery why she came straight to Deerscream than... well who else was there? there wasn't anyone else that would've accepted her like Deerscream, she was like a human version of her mother. If Deerscream still hadn't woken up, she would press her cool and wet nose to her chin and cry out again. She swallowed hard as she started hiccuping, her body bouncing slightly with each hiccup. She would cry out again and bury her face into Deerscream's belly tears rolling down her face as pictures of her nightmare started to taunt her again.

She slumbered contently in the predawn chill, various pelts forming her bed. She was curled like a baby, trying to conserve heat. Deerscream never woke before dawn. She would let the sum rise to chase away the fog and frost.
Not ao this morning. Her eyebrows knitted together as she heard, though her dream stupor, the crying of something she knew she thought precious. A chilly body amd tear drops assaulted her in her sleep until she could not remain dormant. Eventually, her eyes cracked open to find the qriggly body of Swellowsong among her covers.
"What's wrong? she would quietly coo, attempting to pick up the polecat and cuddle it like some babe.

When Deerscream woke and asked what was wrong, she would let the woman pick her up, she would curl close to her, vibrating with terror, she would struggle to get the shakes down to try and get her to understand night mare, she would relax slightly, though she still twitched and shook slightly, she closed her eyes, laying on her back, then opened her eyes suddenly with a scared squeak. Shivering with terror at what she saw in her nightmare. In truth, it was a nightmare about what happened at the boarder, only this time, there was no Creek dancer to save her hide. She ended up getting torn apart and half eaten by the red menace that had threatened coming across the boarder. It was after that, that Shark had come along, and scared the other wolf out and simply sniffed at her corpse and left laughing. She felt tears well up as she thought about her nightmare, whimpering she would curl up into the woman. Her dream had scared her so bad, she hadn't even thought if that was what he would have done.
After a bit, if Deerscream still cuddled her, her whimpering would have died down, her tears stopped, and her shaking ended almost completely, leaving her slightly disoriented and shaky.
Assuming that Deerscream, had cuddled her till she settled down more, she would shakily lift her body closer to Little DeerScreams face and press her nose to Deerscreams nose, being a thanking gesture. She would rub her head on Scream's neck and lick her chin. She would gaze at Scream as if saying 'I trust you, thank you.' all while making a shaky purr/growl hybrid. She would lift a small paw and place it on Screams cheek, then churp softly, and tilt her head, 'Can i help you?' She would push her nose against Screams nose again. Pulling away her ears would flick forwards then back and she would look endearingly at Scream. Wow would have guessed, the little thief would get so attached to what(as in humans in general) she normally stole from. Now if Shark found out, he would pester her so bad... at least that's what she figured he would do... maybe being around all these female wolves would divert his attention from her.

The chills that coursed down the polecat's body, whether they be from fear or cold, concerned Deerscream deeply. She had never had to comfort anything before. The other tribe members seemed to instinctively know never to go to her with her troubles, and Creek Dancer was no one's coddled pet.
So, the human woman did the only thing that came to her mind. She hugged the polecat, driven by something quite possibly ancient and lasting.
As Sonja pressed her nose to Deerscream's, the human let out a soft sigh. The horror or cold, or... whatever had passed by Sonja. That was good. The human would merely hum softly as the polecat scurried over her body, a soft giggle passing as fur touched a particularly delicate spot.
The head tilt was not lost on Deerscream. The human put a finger to her lip, trying to think f something that would benift them both. Yes. Somehow, the little brown thing had gotten engaged in Deerscream's plans, a rare thing.
"We both need a better rank," she said finally. Deerscream knew exactly what her rank was, having barely understood when Creek explained the pack to her after the meeting. "Tools... bah. We're more than that." But what could they do. Deerscream would settle for working with the young, seeing how she could better protect them and feed them than most any other thing in the pack, but what of Sonja's dreams?
"I'll help you first, Swellowsong. What do you want to do?"

When SwellowSong's nightmare dissipated for the time being, she rubbed her head on Deerscream. She watched after she tilted her head slightly,
"We both need a better rank,"
SwellowSong churped questioningly,
"Tools... bah. We're more than that."
Sonja started to shrink visibly. Lowering her blue eyes from DeerScream's yellow ones.
"I'll help you first, Swellowsong. What do you want to do?"
She raised her arms in a shrug as if asking what better am i for? She churped remorsefully. She wanted to be a thief, to go out of the pack, but how? She needed the rank first. Sonja couldn't accept wolves, she could hardly stand by herself... Creek Dancer saved her from the wolf, well, she supposed she did. After all, 'Leeroy' ran off soon after.
Sitting on her backside, she let a quarter of her upper body hang over slightly, what the hell could she do? She wasn't good for anything but her current rank... That was saying something... She was normally quiet resourceful, but today, it just seemed like the chipper little pole-cat wasn't in her best mood. she churped softly, ears folded back. Oh what could she do? She was damn near useless. Maybe Shark WAS right... Maybe she was useless... She couldn't escape with the best of the trinkets... It weighed her down too much... It slowed her down, especially necklaces... The ties always got in her way. The more she thought about how useless she truly was, the more her body lowered, until she was flat on the floor looking more and more upset with herself. Pretty much wallowing in uselessness. She would sniff slightly and stare at Deer's feet.

Deerscream frown in disappointment as her polecat friend simply dismissed herself. They weren't completely defenseless, as much as their stronger friends did assume they were!
Why, they were right powerful, if given the oppritunity! They were tree climbers, explorers of whole new realms!
The human would bend forward and gently nuzzle the top of Sonja's head with her cheek. Oh, Deerscream had to come up with something for them to do. Something where they coud prove their worth.
Oh. Duh. Trading! Creek Dancer had told Deerscream about how the pack valued things; where better got get things that not even Deerscream could make for them than the Man Village. Oh, there were other places for mineral resources, too! And exotic foods! That was exactly it! Deerscream could become their human trade manager and Sonja could prove to be their best theif! It was fool proof. (As foolproof as a five second plan could be.)
"A journey, Swellowsong! We'll get good things--things like pearls and whale bones! We'll get crystals and more flints! We'll find someone who can make a really good axe--and, and" she was stuttering over herself now. She looked gleefully down at the weasel, sitting up with her legs tucked under her and her arms shaking in excitement.
Only, Deerscream didn't know where else to visit except for the Man Villages. And she would have to be careful there, seeing how her last encounter was threatening at the most lenient. If she had another human with her, it might be different. Or she could avoid that one woman. Yes. Or go in the spring. An easy thing to fix, she assured herself.
"... do you know anywhere else to visit, Swellowsong?"

Sonja growl purred as DeerScream nuzzled the top of her head, and arched her neck slightly. Relaxing a bit more, she tensed and jumped back when DeerScream got really excited,
"A journey, Swellowsong! We'll get good things--things like pearls and whale bones! We'll get crystals and more flints! We'll find someone who can make a really good axe--and, and"
Sonja perked up and raced around the tree house before(assuming there is some) finding a piece of 'string' hide and either pointing to it or grabbing it and running to Deerscream, tripping over the string, and smacking her chin on the ground. Then jumping to her paws and holding it up while standing on her hind legs churping wildly, 'And this right? Rightrightrightright??'
"... do you know anywhere else to visit, Swellowsong?"
She sat down, either holding the string, or sitting up to sit on her haunches. She scratched her ear with her fore-paw. Thinking. She pointed at her and churped like 'Well, humans obviously.' but then would shrug and shake her head, 'Nope, i dunno.'
After a few moments Sonja would start dashing around the tree house without the string and bounce up farther in the branches, from branch to branch, down the branches and back up to the platform. She would do this a few times before jumping in front of DeerScream and putting her paws on Deerscreams large hands and wrapping her fingers around her thumb, she would begin tugging while churping 'Comeoncomeoncomeon letsgoletsgoletsgoletsgoletsgo!!' Once Deerscream got to her flat paws, she would jump to a branch and wind herself down the tree before scurrying up to where she was currently, and back down until they were both on the ground and started walking to where ever.

Deerscream let out a muffled gasp when her polecat friend fell, unsure if she would baby the thing too much by picking it up or if coddling was appropriate.
Needless of her actions, the animal got up and quietly contemplated for a moment before churping the obvious. Though Deerscream didn't understand the words themselves, it was a passive noise, like there was an understanding between them so Deerscream assumed it was talking about humans.
Humans humans humans. Animals were just as obsessed as the orcastrized race as the humans were of the wild things.
Deerscream scrambled down the tree to follow Sonja. Hm, wait no. They'd need to collect supplies. And ask that alpha wolf. Er, what was her name? Boss. But that was a title. Deerscream sorely wished there was someway to speak to the animals properly. She felt she would forever be bungling their names. (Of course, if there was a written language, all of this could be fixed, but alas, until they found a friendly macaw or such, the language barrier would remain in tact.)
"Swellowsong! Go get anything you may need... I've got to ask the Boss something! We're going on a journey! They'll see how much good we are!" Then the human ran off to the very area her horse partner had very clearly laid boundaries not to go:
The wolf denning grounds.
To Rita. To conquest. To glory!
[I'll start a new thread where they start off on their journey and link it. Akante gave me an okay, so I'm going to skip to after they get permission, if that's alright.]
